Spider Decorations for Halloween

Crank up the creepy factor this fall and go all out with spider decorations for Halloween! Follow simple steps and get the kids help to create these creepy critters.
First, purchase supplies from your local craft store, such as differently-sized Styrofoam balls, a variety of pipe cleaners, paint, glitter, stickers, googly eyes and fish wire. Paint the spiders, add decorations and insert half of a pipe cleaner in the Styrofoam for each leg. Make all of the spiders through the same process, but decorate each one in a unique fashion.
Here are three ways to use the concept above to create unique spider web decorations:
  • Simple Spider: Create simple spiders for traditional Halloween decorations. Cover Styrofoam balls in black paint. Cut pipe cleaners in half and insert them into the sides of the Styrofoam balls to make spider legs. Bend the legs in the middle in a downward position to form joints. Glue two googly eyes on the front of the Halloween spiders.
  • Playful Spiders: Paint your Styrofoam balls with non-traditional colors, such as pink, purple, green or blue. Get really creative and use several different colors to make multi-colored spiders. Let the base color dry. Once dry, add additional decorations such as polka dots, stripes and stickers. Sprinkle silver, gold or colorful glitter over the paint before it dries. Glue on googly eyes and insert pipe cleaners for legs to complete the spiders.
  • Character: Turn a basic black spider into an exciting Halloween character. Add simple accessories such as a witch’s hat and broom. To turn your spider into a vampire, add white fangs for teeth. Another idea is to wrap the legs and body in white medical tape to create a mummy spider.
Use fish wire to hang the spiders from the ceiling or in a doorway. Add a spider web decoration for extra decor. Create a Halloween spider web decoration with a piece of stretched out cotton. Dare to scare someone in your house? Place a spider in the refrigerator for a creepy surprise!
