80s Party Theme: Break Dancing

If you are looking for a fun theme for your upcoming party, bring your guests back in time with a totally rad 80s party! One of the big things to come out of the 80s was break dancing. A great 80s party idea is to combine some of the trends from the 80s with an overall break dancing theme. Here’s how to get started:

  • Party Location: Before you begin planning, you have to decide where you want your party to be held. If you decide not to have the party at your house, choose a venue that will be able to accommodate your guests and their wild break dancing moves. A venue with a dance floor makes sense. Or, to get a true 80’s atmosphere, have your party at a roller skating rink!
  • Dress Code: Encourage your guests to dress up for the party. Parachute pants, jump suits, nylon track suits, wrist sweat bands, and retro sneakers are all perfect to get you and your guests into the break dancer persona.
  • Decorations: For your 80s party decorations, hang up posters and pictures with graffiti on them. A great idea for 80s party supplies is to cover tables with black tablecloths and use colorful neon accents wherever you can (hot pink plates, neon green napkins, yellow streamers, etc.) Grab a few Rubik’s cubes or enlarged sunglasses to decorate the tables and set up a piece of cardboard on the floor to encourage your guests to show off their break dancing skills.
  • Music: Set up a vintage boom box and create an awesome playlist to get your guests dancing. Songs like “Breakin’ (There’s No Stoppin’ Us)” by Ollie & Jerry, “Breakdancing” by Irene Cara, and “Rock Box” by Run DMC are some good ones to get you started!
  • Favors: Order neon glow necklaces and bracelets for guests to wear at the party. With the dancing and lights, the overall effect will be pretty cool. You can also give out neon jelly braceles for that an 80s party favor feel.
