Mother's Day Art Projects for Kids

There are many fun Mother’s Day art projects for kids that can be given as a special gift! This holiday is also a great opportunity to do some fun arts and craft projects with your kids if you are a mom. Here are some ideas for Mother’s Day art projects:

• Handmade Ornaments: This DIY Mother's Day gift idea also doubles as a beautiful decoration. Find a vintage book or an old letter that you can use to cut out paper hearts of all different sizes. String them with twine and add a jewel or small heart pendant for an accent. Hang the Mother's Day ornaments in a row using different lengths of string to create a staggered effect. For a special touch, ask the kids to write a Mother's Day message on the back of each one!
   
• Picture Flower Magnets: These are a cute Mother’s Day art project for kids to do. For supplies you will need craft foam, scissors, pencil, glue, magnet, glitter, jewels, paint, and family photos. Trace a flower onto the craft foam using a pencil, then cut it out. Next, decorate the flower using glitter, paint, jewels, or any other materials that you want. Once everything has dried, glue a small family photo onto the center of the flower. You may need to just have the faces of family members in the picture so that it will fit on the flower. Glue a magnet onto the back and repeat steps to make other flowers.

• Recipe Card Holder: This is a great Mother’s Day activity for children to do! For materials you will need 30 jumbo Popsicle sticks, glue, and 4 inch by 6 inch index cards. You can also use a variety of materials to decorate the card holder including ribbon, glitter, paint, or silk flowers. The first step to make this craft is to glue eight Popsicle sticks next to each other in a row. Then glue a separate set of five sticks in a row next to each other. Next, glue and stack seven Popsicle sticks on top of one another. Then repeat with another stack of seven sticks.  Take one of the stacks of seven sticks and glue them across the rows of eight sticks along the edge. Repeat with the other stack of seven sticks on the opposite edge. Next, glue the row of five Popsicle sticks on top of the two stacks of sticks, keeping them perpendicular and towards one end of the sticks. Then, glue one stick to the bottom to enclose the recipe card holder. Glue the two remaining sticks in a “V-shape” at the top of the card holder to serve as a hanger. Once everything has dried completely, decorate the recipe card holder using whatever materials you choose!

• Handprint Apron: For this Mother’s Day art project you will need fabric paints, paper plates, fabric pen, and a solid-colored apron (preferably white). Pour some of each paint color onto a separate paper plate. Have the kid press their hand onto the paper plate to coat their palm. Then have them press their hands onto the apron. Continue with other colored paints until the apron is covered in handprints. It may also be a great idea for the child to sign their name under their handprint with the date!
